2021 Miramar Cup Recap – U13 Reaches Championship Final

This past weekend we are proud to announce that FUTSOC sent its U13 FUTALAN Boys and U16 FUTALAN Boys squads to the highly regarded MIRAMAR Cup youth soccer tournament. Performing admirably in both categories, our teams placed highly, despite the effects of extreme weather in South Florida which postponed or cancelled many matches.
FUTSOC FUTALAN U13
In the U13 category, our boys opened the tournament with a hard-fought 1::1 tie against an exceedingly difficult and respected Team Boca opponent. A scoreless tie in the first half with both teams thwarting each other’s offensive attacks, was broken open with a beautiful combination play of six consecutive passes finishing with a perfectly placed assist pass from midfielder José Guerra to a streaming striker Emilio Ortiz, who sent the ball into the upper angle of the net and a 1::0 lead. Continued dominance by our team created many opportunities, however the score held until 5 minutes prior to the game end when our respected opponent tied the score at 1::1 on a cross to the box which was tapped in by one of their players. Being a first match in our very first tournament of the year, it was an excellent performance.
Our second scheduled match, to be played against a strong Juventus FC team was registered as a 0::0 tie, as all matches for the day were rained-out due to intense thunderstorms in South Florida.
With two points in hand, our boys needed to secure a victory against a difficult MST Vipers FC order to move into the championship match. Playing with great intensity and resolve, our boys pulled out the match victory on a breakaway goal scored by striker Emilio Ortiz, for a final 1::0 victory and advancement to the championship match against the 18th ranked team in Florida – Cape Coral Arsenal FC.
A total mismatch against such an overwhelming opponent (which never should have been placed in our bracket level), our boys fought valiantly against all odds before finally succumbing to the larger, faster, and more experienced team.
This was a superb performance for our noticeably young boys and a clear result of their hard training, dedication, and resolve.

FUTSOC FUTALAN U16
Our U16 FUTULAN Boys participated in the 2021 Miramar Cup in South Florida this past weekend with sterling results.
Playing in only its first event of the season (due to COVID restrictions throughout the early part of the year), our young squad surprised by losing a remarkably close opening match 0::1 (on a perfectly executed direct kick) to a very experienced Juventus FC and securing two ties – 0::0 in a rain shortened match against Coral Estates South Miami and 2::2 against a gritty MST 305 FC. In this latter game, our boys came through offensively on the strength of a penalty kick converted by center midfielder Manuel Perez, and a long shot to goal sent by defender Murilo Aparecido and tapped in by our noticeably young striker Eduar Garcia.
Overall, our noticeably young squad never showed signs of quitting and showed great signs of progress and development in this their first action of the year.
